Making the literature committee more transparent

Post by Skald »

I would welcome the advancement of these ideas.
There's much there that I believe could be helpful to folks participating with the CGAA Literature Committee.

If there's going to be a migration from tapatalk at some point anyway, it seems like a good idea to start trying new ways to organize, share, communicate, inventory and archive our growing collection of documents, papers, pamphlets, topics, essays, and book drafts.

Additional backups of resource materials and archived materials are something I'd recommend because while having accessible digital resources is great for sharing, allowing too easy access without safeguards could enable a malicious person to wipe out a lot of painstaking, much discussed and deliberated work by CGAA members and committees.

Eventually I will propose that we stop using Tapatalk, host a forum on cgaa.info, and use it for recording business matters only.

There are only 2-3 recovery-related forum posts per month and I'm sometimes the only one responding. So I propose that we either use WhatsApp instead of a forum, or create a recovery forum separate from the business meeting one. Linda has already backed up the recovery forums and has them stored on a website.

Then we will get away from the issue of brand-new newcomers looking for a recovery forum and seeing distracting, possibly controversial business posts irrelevant to them. With separate forums, there will be no need to approve people for viewing.

One of the other problems with the current forum on tapatalk is that it's become cluttered and doesn't seem to have great features for archiving, sharing, communicating, and project tracking.

For groups working together, something that enables easy sharing of messages, files, pdf documents, links, works in progress, all of those things would help accelerate our ongoing conversations. Whereas here, I have to go searching about more. Something more integrated, with a team based approach would be helpful. If our efforts could be supported with something like a work team program which allows for messages, a shared calendar, shared documents, and an archive, we'd be approaching something that in my view, could be ideal.

Sunday June 21, 2020
Attendees: Xander, Shmully, Scott, Major, Jeff

3a. Basic text writing in progress
3b. Meeting handbook writing in progress
3c. Service handbook on hold until Major resumes work on it
3d. Things to do webpage in three-month input period before finalization

4. Newcomer's lettter
Comments:
Let's keep it short so that foggy newcomers can read through it all
Focus is: What is important to know in the first week or two that can trip or hinder newcomers up if they don't know?
One topic to cover is our use of the word "spirituality. Shmully will be writing a piece, along the lines of changing way of looking at things, overcoming selfishness.

Rather than a very long piece about basics of recovery, link to other webpages that covers topics in more depth.
Links. "What can I do page, Withdrawal Symptoms page, 20 questions page (for those who wonder if they really belong), something in the early part specifically for those who wonder if they really belong.

Proposal: Allow six months of input before trying to finalize in Sept 2020.
Passed. All ayes.

Proposal: Talk in Lit Com until Sept, then subcommittee that meets at least once to work on a final draft.
Passed. All ayes.

Comments:
Let's use email exchanges and consider using project software to keep us engaged, focused, and productive in a team-based approach.
It's good to let face-to-face meetings know about new material on the website, partly to improve traffic and rankings.

Talking to newcomers more frequently will help us gauge what's needed

5. Sample meeting formats:
Get formats from face to face and zoom meetings, in particular from NY and Amsterdam. Xander will translate format from Dutch.
Make a Lit Com email list and have an agenda item for updating it

6. Literature Process.
Comment: Like idea of project management software and it could help with formalizing literature process.
Out of time, tabled until next time.

Remaining items tabled until next time
