Parallels between gaming addiction and other addictions
We C.G.A.A. members who once suffered the crippling effects of obsessive compulsive gaming but now enjoy greater freedom and health in recovery have come to call ourselves gaming addicts. We have come to recognize in ourselves many of the same characteristics found in other addictions. Our gaming behavior was progressive, both in our obsession with it and in how it deteriorated our lives. We let our values, morals, relationships, careers, hobbies and health fall to the wayside as our compulsion to game grew stronger. Yet we were mostly blind to the link between our gaming behavior and the problems it caused. We were in denial and we reacted with anger when confronted about our behavior. All of these effects are commonplace in the well-known addictions.
